Well, after our last "Adventure in Mexico" (see Martins' Down and Out link to the left), we decided to make this year's ride to a far safer location! In fact, we decided to include our 7 year old daughter this year to start getting her acclimated to our passion. When compared to our rides over the last 3 years, this one is not a "real ride" at all. In the planning stages we decided to keep the daily mileage under 200, so Erin could enjoy a week of leisurely daily rides and a lot of time experiencing the Maritime Culture of Nova Scotia. Thus making her introduction into the " Motorcycle rides" one that will be so enjoyable that she will want to accompany us to Argentina in 2014.So, much like I have done in the past, I built our plan around our objectives, which are:
- Ride the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton, reported to be one of the 10 best motorcycle roads in the world!
- Go to "Titanic Graveyard" in Halifax where 200 unclaimed souls are buried on its 100 yr anniversary
- Circumnavigate the Province to see as much of it as we could.
- Stay at as many out-of-the-way places as possible to get the most cultural exposure that we can.
- Try to do some whale watching.
Granted, the objectives are not as aggressive as past trips, but after a few years of riding on the edge, we felt it was time take a vacation "relaxing" instead of "white knuckling"! I know my sister Gail would give me a big "DUH!" for tht revelation. In fact, we are not even taking the offroad "steeds" that served us well over the last 3 years (KLR650's), but opted to take our road bikes instead, me a Yamaha FZ-8, and Jenn a Triumph 955i Speed Triple. In addition, our dear friend and oft riding buddy Daniel Martin is joining us on his Honda VFR 800. Although Erin says he is "not really part of our family", even tho he has the same name, Jenn and I consider him a close family member, in addition to being a very good friend. So the basic plan is:
- We will load the 3 bikes on our trailer/truck, and Daniel and I (John) will transport the bikes the 1455 miles to St. John in Brunswick Canada and unload the bikes.
- Jenn and Erin will leave a day later and fly directly to St. John.
- We will all meet up the evening of Friday 6/22 in St. John.
- Saturday (6/23) we will board the Ferry in St. John and take the 3 hour ride to Digby Nova Scotia
- We will Spend a week riding in Nova Scotia and board the ferry back to St. John the following Saturday
- On Sunday July 1, we will again split the parties back up, with Daniel and I trucking back to Atlanta, while Jenn and Erin take the relaxing flight back home.
If things go as planned Jenn and Erin will meet back up with Daniel and I sometime Late Monday in Atlanta.
Well that is the plan, but as you saw in our last trip, things can quickly change so stay tuned. Next up...... Prepping for thr Trip.
